Microphone Placement: 3:1 Principle
Whenever you are using multiple microphones in a live or studio setting, try to place the mics so they are at least 3 times the distance between the mic and the sound it is recording.
In other words, if you have a mic 1 foot away from an instrument, there shouldn’t be another mic within three feet of it. This will help prevent problems with phasing when the tracks are mixed together. |
